TITRE:
Computing Textual Entailment Distances
In this talk I argue that
purely logical approaches to recognising textual entailment work well
in theory but not in practice. Rather than a simple binary value (true
or false), a number (for instance in a range from 1 to 100) indicating
the semantic distance between two texts would be of more value for
recognising textual entailment in the real world. I show a procedure
for doing so using formal methods, and compare the approach with
current trends in distributional semantics as well as with
old-fashioned
AI methods.
